What is availability by method?
Services have a method of appointment which defines how the appointment will be conducted. It could be that the appointment is in-person, or alternatively it could be a remote appointment via phone or video.
If your company has staff members that are only available for in-person, phone or video appointments at particular periods of time, this new feature now enables you to ensure their availability is accurately reflected.
Benefits
Whether your staff are working from home in the afternoon or taking phone appointments outside of opening hours - we now hand them over the full control over their availability.
This allows you to plan ahead and enable staff to use their time more efficiently, increasing appointment throughput.
Creating availability for methods
Follow the steps below to create new Conditions for each combination of methods that require staff member availability:
- Login to your JRNI account.
- From the left-hand menu, select Your Business > Staff.
- Click the staff member’s name to load the Staff Profile.
- Select the Schedule tab from the top of their profile.
- Under the Conditions menu, click Create new. The window below will open for you to complete the following:
- Give your condition a name; e.g. “Phone and Video availability”.
- Assign a color. This helps to differentiate multiple conditions when viewing the staff’s schedule.
- All methods assigned to that staff member will be selected/ticked by default. Untick any methods, leaving only the method(s) you wish to assign specific availability for.
- Click OK to save your changes.

- Repeat step 5 to create additional conditions for other methods that will need separate availability.
- Remaining on the staff’s Schedule page, you will now need to create a shift pattern for each method/condition created or select an existing shift pattern and edit
- Ensure the condition you would like to create a shift pattern for is selected on the left hand panel.
- Select Create shift pattern from the top right corner (or click on existing shift to edit)
- Complete the shift pattern form according to your staff’s availability, ensuring that you select your created condition in the Condition field at the bottom. Click Save once complete.

- Repeat steps 8 - 10 to create a shift pattern for any other Conditions created. Note that you can now create overlapping shifts to accomodate all possible schedule scenarios at different locations.
- Remaining on the staff’s Schedule page, you will see the calendar has been updated with the availability set for that staff member.
The example below displays a staff schedule that has two conditions set up for different methods and locations. Availability for all methods in Brighton In-person (in orange, as defined by the condition created) and virtual availability for Phone and Video in London (in green) for the first two hours.
